This year marks the 27th anniversary of the Miss Juneteenth Pageant and the second annual Little Miss Juneteenth Pageant. We invite young girls between the ages of 7 and 13 years old to participate in this competition.

 

The Miss Juneteenth Pageant is an opportunity to highlight the participants’ academic achievements, recognize their positive contributions to the community, feature their talents and represent young ladies in a formal African American tradition to the community.

The Little Miss Juneteenth Pageant is an opportunity to for African-American young women between the ages of 7 and 13. Little Miss Juneteenth will be an exceptional role model for young girls in the city of Milwaukee. Like Miss Juneteenth, she will promote positive images through school appearances and community events.

 

Both pageants are great sources of pride as they highlight young women as future leaders and provides a positive experience for all contestants.

 

 

The Pageants will be held on Sunday, June 9 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Center - 1531 West Vliet Street, Milwaukee, WI 53205

MISS & LITTLE MISS JUNETEENTH

Sunday, June 9th, 2019

Welcome to the 26th Annual Miss Juneteenth Pageant, presented by Northcott Neighborhood House! This scholarship competition is open to African-American women ages 14 to 18. Miss Juneteenth showcases young women’s:

 

  • Academic achievements.

  • Service to the community.

  • Talents in the written, visual and performing arts.

 

For 2019, the Miss Juneteenth Pageant will be held on Sunday, June 9 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Center, 1531 West Vliet Street. As a contestant, you will compete for $3,000.00 in cash prizes.


In addition to the prizes, Miss Juneteenth and her court will be prominently featured in the Juneteenth Day Parade and Celebration on Wednesday, June 19. Young women from Little Miss Juneteenth will be part of the parade too.

  • All entrants must submit a 250-word essay that focuses on the theme, “How do I maximize the opportunities afforded me today because of those who sacrificed before me?" Entrants must use the City of Milwaukee Library System to develop their essay.

  • A certified copy of your birth certificate and school ID are required.

  • Be a Milwaukee County resident for at least six months.

  • If selected to be in the pageant, participants must attend one session of Northcott Neighborhood House’s “I’m Beautifully Me” program held at the center. The program is held on Wednesdays in May from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Girls may attend any session.

  • To sell a minimum of $100.00 of advertisements and/or ticket sales.

  • Submit a completed application packet and have the written consent (signature) of their parent or legal guardian before participating in the Miss Juneteenth pageant program.

  • To attend all rehearsals, which are mandatory. If an emergency does arise (medical), please notify the pageant coordinators.

  • Conflicting dates for school, work and any other extra-curricular activity do count as emergencies. You are expected to use time management to meet personal and pageant obligations.

  • Should there be any unexcused absences from rehearsals, you automatically forfeit your spot in the pageant.

You must submit a completed application along with the following information:

 

  1. A 250-word essay on the question; “How do I maximize the opportunities afforded me today because of those who sacrificed before me?"

  2. Proof of age (copy of photo ID with date of birth)

  3. A copy of your most recent card and transcript (Applicant must carry a minimum of a 2.5 GPA)

Completed applications and essays can be turned into Northcott Neighborhood House between 8am and 4pm Mon - Fri.

Welcome to the Little Miss Juneteenth Pageant! It follows the tradition of the Miss Juneteenth Pageant to recognize and highlight the greatness, service, and talents of African-American girls.


Little Miss Juneteenth is open to ages 7 to 13 and will showcase:

 

  • Academic achievements.

  • Service to the community.

  • Talents in the arts.


The Little Miss Juneteenth Pageant will be held on Sunday, June 9 at the Dr. Martin
Luther King Center, located at 1531 West Vliet Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It will be held
in conjunction with the Miss Juneteenth Pageant for young women ages 14 to 18. As a
contestant, your daughter/child will compete for $2,000 in cash prizes.


In addition to the prizes, Little Miss Juneteenth and her court will be part of the Juneteenth Day
Parade on Wednesday, June 19. Miss Juneteenth and her court will be part of the parade too.

  • All entrants must submit a piece of art expressing “What does Juneteenth mean to me? All are required to utilize the City of Milwaukee Library System to develop their submission.

  • A certified copy of your child’s birth certificate is required.

  • Be a Milwaukee County resident for at least six months.

  • To sell a minimum of $100.00 of advertisements and/or ticket sales.

  • To submit a completed application packet and have the written consent (signature) of their parent or legal guardian before participating in the Little Miss Juneteenth pageant program.

  • To attend all rehearsals, which are mandatory. If an emergency does arise (medical), please notify the pageant coordinators.

  • Conflicting dates for school and any other extra-curricular activity do count as emergencies. Parents/Guardians are expected to make sure their child has transportation to meetings and rehearsals.

  • Should there be any unexcused absences from rehearsals, your daughter/child automatically forfeits her spot in the pageant.

You must submit a completed application along with the following information:

 

  1. A piece of art expressing “What does Juneteenth mean to me?" Examples of art include but are not limited to painting, drawing, or poem.

  2. Proof of age (copy of birth certificate or document of proving age)

  3. A copy of your most recent card (Your child must carry a minimum of a B average grade point or equivalent).
